How to Undo Windows 10 Update
How can you get rid of Windows 10? Is it possible to revert your PC to an earlier version? Actually, it is not a difficult thing. In this post, we will walk you through four solutions to Windows 10 rollback.
Way 1: Use an Image Backup
Today, computer security is becoming a high-profile thing and many of you are used to creating a system image backup or disk backup for your PC. In general, a regular backup is worth making for computer protection. If you have managed to make an image for the OS or system disk prior to upgrading to Windows 10, just try to use the created image to revert to a previous version of Windows.
Before the Windows update, please use a professional backup tool to create an image for system or disk. Usually, the third-party software is a good option.
Here, we strongly recommend MiniTool ShadowMaker which is released by MiniTool Solution Ltd. for Windows 10/8/7 backup & restore. With its powerful features, a system backup, or disk backup can be created with only simple steps. Besides, an automatic backup is also supported. In case of a system issue, the system image file or disk backup can be used for a restoration. Thus, in order to avoid the update issue, download the Free Edition of this backup software for a backup.
How to back up your Windows before an update? Three steps are here.
Step 1: Run MiniTool ShadowMaker Free Edition and click Connect button in the Local section.
Step 2: Select the system partition or the entire system disk as the backup source and choose an external hard drive as the destination disk for backup storage.
Step 3: Click Back up Now to begin the backup.
For more information, read How to Backup Computer to External Hard Drive in Windows 10/8/7.
If you have created an image beforehand, how can you use it to uninstall Windows 10 update and go back to a previous Windows version? Let's see some details.
Attention: As to a system recovery, MiniTool ShadowMaker Free Edition only allows you to perform the operation in WinPE (Windows Preinstallation Environment). Namely, you need to use the Bootable Edition of this reliable backup & restore software.
When reading here, a question comes up: how can you get the Bootable Edition? In Tools tab of MiniTool ShadowMaker, Bootable Media feature is offered. Click it to create a bootable USB drive or DVD/CD:
After finishing the creation of the bootable disc, connect it to your PC and change the BIOS setting to boot your computer from it. A few seconds later, MiniTool ShadowMaker will run by itself. Now, begin the recovery to remove Windows 10 update. Here, the system backup and system disk backup are both available. We will take disk restoration as an example.
Step 1: Navigate to Restore page, choose the backup you have made before and then click Restore button.
1. If no backup image is displayed, click Add Backup button to list the backup you want to restore.
2. From the following picture, you can see the drive letter is different from what it is in Windows. Thus, please identify the image carefully.
Step 2: Then, the creation time of this backup version will be shown. Choose the backup and click Next to continue.
Step 3: Then, all the volumes that are included in the selected backup file will be displayed on this page. Note that MBR and Track 0 should be selected, otherwise, your PC will fail to start up.
Step 4: Then, it's your turn to decide which hard disk you want to restore the image file to. After clicking Next button, a warning will pop out to show you the partitions that will be overwritten during the restoration.
1. Generally, the system disk will be the first choice as the target disk. But, if some new contents are added to your system disk after disk backup, these contents are not backed up, then, the restoration will delete the data. Thus, you had better restore your disk image to another hard drive without important data. After recovery, boot your PC from this disk and copy the necessary files from the source disk to the new disk.
2. On the other hand, if you have made an incremental backup for your disk, here system disk is suitable as the target disk.
Step 5: A few minutes later, the operation will be completed successfully.
By means of MiniTool ShadowMaker, it is quite easy to uninstall Windows 10 update and restore your PC to the earlier version. If you have created a system backup or disk backup with this free backup & restore software, just use this tool to perform a restoration. Or share this software with your friends to avoid system failure after an update.
If you don't have an image, you can't uninstall Windows update by this way. Just try the second solution.
