Do you want to know the difference between a Microsoft personal account and a Microsoft work or school account? This post from MiniTool Partition Wizard will show you Microsoft personal account vs work or school account and how to add and remove the work or school account from Windows 10/11.
Microsoft Personal Account vs Work or School Account
When you use Microsoft services like Outlook.com, Office subscriptions, Skype, OneDrive, Xbox Live, Bing, the Microsoft Store, Windows, and MSN, you need a Microsoft account. These Microsoft services are bound to the Microsoft account.
Can I install Windows 11 without a Microsoft account? Don’t worry. Here is a tutorial and you can follow it to install Windows 11 without a Microsoft account.
A Microsoft personal account can be created easily with any mail address. You can use a new email address and mailbox at Outlook.com or use a mail address from any third-party services (Hotmail or Gmail). You can also create a Microsoft personal account when you sign in to a new Windows 10 computer for the first time.
However, the Microsoft work or school account is a little different. To promote Microsoft products to schools and enterprises, Microsoft will offer a discount to schools and enterprises. The Microsoft work or school account is the base of this policy.
Microsoft work account and Microsoft school account usually have an administrator account, which is owned by a school or a company. Each common Microsoft work or school account, which is usually owned by an employee or a student, is created by the administrator account. In general, these accounts will have a unified domain name suffix, which is usually the same as that of the administrator.
A Microsoft work or school account will not be sold to individuals directly and it will also not be bound to existing personal accounts.
If your company or school doesn’t require you to use the work or school account, I recommend you use the Microsoft personal account because Microsoft work or school account has a limited period of use and data security issues. The administrator account can cancel the work or school account and it can view all contents in One Drive of the work or school account.
How to Add and Remove School/Work Account from Windows 10/11
If you're using the same PC for both personal and school or business work, you may need to add the school or work account to your PC so that you can get to the files, apps, and information associated with each account more easily. Here is the guide:
- Select Start > Settings > Accounts > Access work or school.
- Select Connect, and then follow the prompts to add the accounts.
If you want to remove work account from Windows 10/11 later, please go to the same place, select the account you wish to remove, select Disconnect, and then select Yes to confirm your actions. This will not delete the account entirely, and it will just remove access from your PC.
