How to Fix the Orbi Flashing White Light Problem

There are 4 simple solutions to the Orbi pulsing white problem. We recommend you try them one by one until the problem gets solved.

# 1. Power Cycle Your Orbi Satellite and Router

The first and simplest fix for Orbi blinking white is to perform a cold restart of your Orbi Satellite and router. By doing so, a temporary glitch of its firmware can be cleared. Make sure that the proper power supply is plugged into the Orbi device and follow the steps below to restart the Orbi device:

Step 1. Power off both your Orbi device and router. If another modem or router is running, make sure to power it off as well.

Step 2. Unplug all power sources from your devices and leave them in this condition overnight.

Step 3. Re-plug the devices and power on your Orbi router.

Step 4. Press the Reset button on your router until the LED light of the router starts to blink Amber light.

Step 5. Release the Reset button and leave it in this condition for an hour.

Once done, you can power on the devices and see if the Orbi router blinking white disappears.

# 2. Resync the Orbi Satellite

If the Orbi blinking white only occurs with a satellite, you can try resyncing the satellite to the router. To do so, follow the steps below:

Step 1. Make sure that your Orbi satellite and router are receiving power and powered on.

Step 2. Press the Sync button on your Orbi router.

Step 3. Wait for about 2 minutes and then press the Sync button again. Then you can see if the syncing is successful based on the blinking light.

  • Blue light: Sync is successful
  • Amber light: Move devices closer to each other
  • Magenta light: If the light blinks for about 90 seconds or more, the sync failed. Try again.
Tip: If the resyncing still doesn’t work, you can try creating a new password by navigating to Advanced Settings > Wireless Settings > Return Network Password > Generate.

# 3. Factory Reset Your Orbi Devices

Sometimes the Orbi pulsing white appears when your Orbi devices get corrupted due to an update. In this case, you can try performing a factory reset of the Orbi device. For that:

Step 1. Make sure your Orbi device and the router are close to the laptop or modem.

Step 2. Power off the router and satellites.

Step 3. Unplug the Orbi router from the ethernet and Power on it.

Step 4. Wait for about 5 minutes and press the Reset button on the Orbi router for at least 1 minute.

Step 5. Hold the Reset button until the router starts blinking in the Amber light.

Step 6. Release the Reset button and wait for about 5 minutes. Then reset the satellite to the factory defaults during the above-mentioned 5 minutes.

After factory resetting, you can check if the Orbi blinking white issue gets resolved.

# 4. Update the Orbi Firmware

As mentioned above, the Orbi satellite blinking white problem can be caused by corrupt or damaged Firmware of the router. Here you can follow the steps below to update the firmware manually.

Step 1. Connect the ethernet cable from your host network to the WAN port of your Orbi router.

Step 2. Open a web browser on your laptop, and then navigate to the web portal of the Orbi router and log in to your account. Usually, it is 192.168.1.1.

Step 3. Follow the on-screen process to set up the devices based on your requirements, and then cancel the failed firmware update in the Firmware Update tab.

Step 4. Download the latest firmware updates from Netgear’s website and extract the download on your computer. Here make sure that the downloaded firmware matches your router/satellite.

Step 5. Open the Web UI of the Orbi and go to the following section

Advanced > Administration > Firmware Update > Manual Update

Step 6. Click on Browse and select the extracted firmware update on your computer and click on Upgrade. Then wait for the upgrade to complete and see if the Orbi white flashing light issue gets fixed.
