Repartition Windows RAID

  • Want to repartition Windows RAID?
When using Dynamic Disk, system will provide function of creating RAID 5 volume. What is RAID? Let's get to know about it.

RAID is a kind of disk array. In brief, it is a disk group that is formed by multiple independent disks in different ways. Thus it has better storage performance and higher security. According to different formative ways, RAID is divided into different levels. The following are the advantages of RAID:
    1. As RAID is formed by multiple disks, it has better storage ability.
    2. Multiple disks work together so the data accessing speed is improved.
    3. RAID is added with data conformability and fault-tolerant function, etc.

RAID 5 is a kind of storage solution that has great performance, high security, and low cost. It employs disk division technique. RAID 5 needs at least three disks. It does not back up data but saves parts of data and corresponding parity bit (parity bit is the simplest error-detecting code) on each disk separately. Once a disk breaks down, RAID 5 will repair it automatically with the rest parts of data and corresponding parity bit. RAID 5 has high security but only a little lower than mirrored volume. Its disk usage rate is high and cost is low.

Because of its advantages, RAID 5 is popular in dynamic disk management, especially for server users.

Create RAID 5 in a faster and easier way
To repartition Windows RAID with built-in disk management tool needs rather complicated operations, especially in setting the size. It is better to use professional dynamic disk manager like MiniTool Partition Wizard. It can create RAID 5 volume, move RAID 5 volume, resize RAID 5 volume and examine disk easily. The following is the presentation of creating RAID 5 volume with MiniTool Partition Wizard:

Launch MiniTool Partition Wizard, and in the disk list, right click the disk icon. In the pop-up menu, select "Create Volume" to enter into the next step:

Check "RAID 5" and click "Next" button:

In this interface, we need to select the disk space for RAID 5 volume. Select "Disk2", "Disk3", "Disk4" here and click "Add":

To reselect disk, click "Remove" or "Remove All". Click "Next" to step forwards:

We can set RAID 5 volume size in this interface. Drag the whole volume handle to change the volume position. Click "Finish" to return to main interface:

In this main interface, we can preview the newly-created RAID 5 volume. Just now we selected 40GB, but now there is 60GB in the RAID 5 volume. That is the feature of RAID 5 volume. One part of it is the parity bit of RAID 5. Thus data is secured and when there is any damage, it can repair it in time. At last, click "Apply" button to execute pending operation. MiniTool Partition Wizard will prompt us to reboot computer. Click "Restart Now". During rebooting, we will see the following interface:

After executing, the work of creating RAID 5 volume is finished.

Besides repartition dynamic disk, MiniTool Partition Wizard still has many other dynamic disk management functions. You can visit the official website of it to get more information about MiniTool Partition Wizard: https://www.partitionwizard.com/.
