3 Ways to Convert FAT32 to NTFS Windows 7

Way 2. Convert FAT32 to NTFS CMD

If you are familiar with Command Prompt, you can also rely on it. This Windows built in utility can help you convert FAT to NTFS without losing data. However, you should know that this is an irreversible operation, which means you cannot use the command prompt to convert NTFS partitions back to FAT32. Please do the followings:

Step 1. At Run box, type cmd.
Step 2. In the Command Prompt, type convert drive letter: /fs:ntfs. (example: convert f: /fs:ntfs)

Way 3. Convert FAT32 to NTFS Disk Management

You can also convert FAT32 to NTFS in Windows 7 using Disk Management. But the only way to do this conversion in Disk Management is to choose NTFS as the desired file system while formatting. So you need to back up the important files in advance before you start the conversion.

Step 1. At the Start menu, type diskmgmt.msc and hit Enter.

Step 2. Right-click the FAT32 partition you want to convert and select Format

Step 3. Choose NTFS as the desired file system and click OK.

Step 4. If you have made a backup of the important files in the target FAT32 partition, confirm that you want this conversion when you see the following message. After a while, the partition will be displayed as NTFS partition.
