Summary: sometimes we may delete hard drive partitions mistakenly, and want to recover data from the unallocated hard disk. This post tells the most effective way to recover unallocated hard drive.
Partition Is Missing
Issue: I have a 1TB external hard disk which was partitioned to 3 partitions. Without knowing what happened, one of my partitions got lost and became unallocated. All my precious photos are saved on that drive (I’m a photography lover), so please tell me how can I recover data from an unallocated hard disk space. I have googled and was told to use data recovery programs. Nevertheless, recovery apps I found on the internet are expensive or just allow me to recover limited files, so I desperately want to know whether there is a free or relatively economical solution.
Why the partition is missing?
General speaking, partition or partitions may get lost or disappear due to various reasons, such as virus attack, mistaken deletion, sudden power outage, incorrect partitioning, and more. In addition, the lost partition will be shown as unallocated space just as the above issue mentioned. To recover the important data from a lost partition, you should apply a piece of third party software. Here, MiniTool Partition Wizard is a good choice.
This software is a piece of reliable and professional partition manager with multiple functions such as creating/deleting/formatting partition, migrating system, copying disk/partition, file system conversions, disk type conversions, partition recovery, and more. In addition, this software is compatible with Windows 10/8.1/8/7/Vista/XP 32-bit and 64-bit. To recover data from lost partition, you can use its function "Partition Recovery". And this feature is available in Professional Edition and the advanced editions. Here I will operate it in Professional Edition.

Step 4. On this interface, choose the partitions you want to save including existing and lost/deleted, because this software will delete the partitions which are not chosen. In the "Preview" bar, you are allowed to preview the partition recovery effect. Then, click "Finish" on the lower right side to go back to the main interface again.
Then, you may notice that the recovered partition has no drive letter. To make it display on your computer, you should arrange a drive letter for it, and this software still can do this work for you. Just follow the next steps to achieve this aim.
Step 5. Select the target partition and choose "Change Drive Letter" from the left operations bar. Then you will get a pop-out window as following. Choose a new drive letter and then click "OK" to go back to the main interface.
