Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk
About MBR Disk and GPT Disk
Master Boot Record (MBR) and GUID Partitioning Table (GPT) are two very different ways of disk partitioning or disk slicing. Even though they achieve the mutual goal of separating the information for the operating system, they are very different from one another.
Though the two ways of disk partitioning are similar, their biggest differences are their maximum number of partitions and the size of each partition. An MBR disk supports up to four primary partitions, (or three primary partitions and one extended partition), in a Windows Operating System whereas the GPT can support up to 128 partitions. Furthermore the MBR disk can only support two Terabytes of information in each partition whereas the GPT disk can hold up to eighteen Exabytes of information.
These aren’t the only reasons why so many users wish to convert from MBR disk to GPT disk. One of the other features the GPT disk also offer is the ability to store multiple copies of the data within the operating system. If the data is overwritten or corrupted, the GPT disk can recover the data and the operating system would function again. In contrast, the MBR disk does not have this feature and thus unable to easily recover corrupt or overwritten data.
MiniTool Partition Wizard
Even though there are many computer users that want to convert their MBR disks into GPT disks, there was never a safe and reliable tool to do so. That is until now.
The MiniTool Partition Wizard acts similarly to the Installation Wizard computer users are very familiar with. Even if the computer users have no prior knowledge or understanding of how to convert an MBR disk to a GPT disk, they are able to do so with this program. All the users have to do is to simply follow the tutorial below:
1.Choose the MBR disk you want to convert.
2.Select “Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk” Function. You have choose to do it in three different ways:
- On the left hand side under the Operations list
- Select the Disk tab from the drop-down menu at the top
- Right click on the target disk and select “Convert MBR Disk to GPT Disk” from the pop-up list
3.Click on “Apply” button in order to carry out pending operations.
4.Choose “Yes” in the pop-up prompt interface to start converting.
Note: MiniTool Partition Wizard can only help users convert the MBR disk which doesn’t include system partition to GPT disk. Otherwise, conversion operations cannot be carried out to MBR disk.
