Extend NTFS system partition without reboot

  • Sometimes, when we are installing a program, there will be a prompt warning that there is not enough space in disk. About this, most users will try to delete files and then install program. It only solves the problem temporarily. There is a new solution now. That is to extend system partition. It is an efficient way. We can shrink one partition and then extend system partition with the unallocated space. With the help of professional partition magic, MiniTool Partition Wizard, we can realize this solution easily. No matter it is FAT or NTFS file system, MiniTool Partition Wizard can do it easily. Let's see how MiniTool Partition Wizard helps us extend NTFS system partition without reboot.

The graphical interface shows us 97% system partition has been used. Now let's try to extend it. Before extending, we should make some unallocated space since there is no available unallocated space. Choose one partition in the same disk with system partition (E: partition in this picture), and then click "Move/Resize" button in toolbar.

In this interface, drag the partition handle to resize it or input values in the textboxes. Shrink it as the following picture shows:

Click "OK" button to return to main interface:

Main interface shows us there is an unallocated space behind the system partition. Now, we can extend NTFS system partition with this partition magic. Select system partition, and then "Move/Resize" to start extending.

Now the interface shows us system partition is extended. The used space turns from 97% to 59%. At last, click "Apply" button to execute the operations. As we are dealing with system partition, the computer needs reboot (But we can extend non-system partition without reboot). After rebooting, the problem of low system partition space is solved.
