Current Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows Phone 8.1 users will be able to free upgrade their OS to Windows 10 for one year after the operating system launches, Terry Myerson, chief of Microsoft operating system, announced on Tuesday.
To a large extent, Microsoft’s move is to help the next generation of Windows operating system (Windows 10) take up more market share. It was reported that more than half of desktop users all over the world are still using Windows 7 and about 10% users are using Windows 8.1. Even if a small part of these users change their OS to Windows 10, that would be a huge number. And many users are willing to do this upgrade since the new Windows operating system owns many attractive features, such as modernized Start Menu, optimized UI, and better multitasking with Task View.
Nevertheless, though Windows 10 is amazing, there are still limits when users are doing disk and partition management. After opening Disk Management in Windows 10 Technical Preview and right clicking a partition we can see the following interface:
It shows this tool cannot do a lot of partitioning operations, such as extend partition to non-contiguous unallocated space, move partition, merge partition, split partition, convert file system, set partition logical or primary, and align partition. Therefore, it is very necessary to equip their computer with a free third party partitioning software after users free upgrade OS to Windows 10 or directly install Windows 10.
