How can we convert FAT partition to NTFS? In case the FAT partition fails to meet the increasing demands of user, user should search for a better partition format with higher performance. Currently, NTFS is the best partition format available within computer business; so many users would like to covert their previous FAT partition to NTFS. Nevertheless, the operating system build-in disk management tool is unable to convert FAT to NTFS and user should turn to a third-party partition manager. Among excellent partition managers, MiniTool Partition Wizard is the very best one in my point of view.
- Supported partition size
NTFS supports maximum size of 2TB while FAT 32 supports maximum partition size of 32 GB under Windows 2000 - Reliable file system
NTFS is a recoverable and reliable file system on which disk reparation is seldom performed. - File compression
NTFS compresses files using a variant of the LZ77 algorithm. Although read–write access to compressed files is often, but not always transparent, Microsoft recommends avoiding compression on server systems and/or network shares holding roaming profiles because it puts a considerable load on the processor. Single-user systems with limited hard disk space can benefit from NTFS compression. The slowest link in a computer is not the CPU but the speed of the hard drive, so NTFS compression allows the limited, slow storage space to be better used, in terms of both space and (often) speed. NTFS compression can also serve as a replacement for sparse files when a program is not able to create files without content as sparse files.
- NTFS log
NTFS is a Journalling filesystem and uses the NTFS Log to record metadata changes to the volume. It is a critical functionality of NTFS (a feature that FAT/FAT32 does not provide) for ensuring that its internal complex data structures and indices will remain consistent in case of system crashes, and allow easy rollback of uncommitted changes to these critical data structures when the volume is remounted.
MiniTool Partition Wizard
MiniTool Partition Wizard is able to convert file system safely with stability, properly managing disk partitions. Besides, MiniTool Partition Wizard runs perfectly under Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows Server 2000, Windows Server 2003, Windows XP, Windows 7, Windows 2008, etc.
User could download MiniTool Partition Wizard at MiniTool Partition Wizard Download Center.
To convert FAT to NTFS, user should select a desired FAT partition in above interface and click "Convert FAT to NTFS".
Content of the red box shows the current file system and new files system. Click "Start" after confirmation.
Now user could notice the previous FAT partition has become NTFS partition.
