Expand RAID 5 partition
-
RAID 5 volume can only be created in dynamic disk and its creating conditions differ from partition. Partition can be created in basic disk but RAID 5 volume needs at least three dynamic disks. RAID 5 volume always deals with a large amount of data so it needs large capacity. RAID 5 volume saves data and corresponding parity information to each disk separately. That means there are N-1 disks for saving data and one disk for saving parity information. Therefore, actual free space in RAID 5 is smaller than the physical disk space.
Expand RAID 5
As we all know that RAID 5 is dynamic volume with large capacity and there is always one dynamic disk being unable to save data, so when we create RAID 5 volume, we need to set the capacity larger. Sometimes we have to expand RAID 5 partition for there is not enough space. Most users will firstly try to use Windows built-in disk management tool. Though it has simple operation, its disadvantage is that it cannot guarantee data security while expanding. What we need is professional dynamic disk manager.
Use MiniTool Partition Wizard to expand RAID 5
The best dynamic disk manager, MiniTool Partition Wizard, is the first choice for you to expand RAID 5 partition. Data security values most when we are managing dynamic disk. MiniTool Partition Wizard guarantees data security while managing dynamic disk. The following is a presentation of expanding RAID 5 partition with MiniTool Partition Wizard:
The main interface of MiniTool Partition Wizard shows condition of all disks and volumes. Select the target volume and click "Move/Resize" button in toolbar to start resizing.
In this interface, drag the partition handle border rightwards to expand RAID 5 partition. Click "OK" button to finish expanding.
Returning to main interface of MiniTool Partition Wizard, we can see the preview effect of expanded RAID 5 partition. If the effect is not so ideal, you can choose to resize it again by clicking "Move/Resize" button. You can also click "Undo" or "Discard" button in toolbar to cancel operations. If the operations are checked and all right, we can click "Apply" button to execute.
MiniTool Partition Wizard can manage basic disk, too. The operation of expanding basic partition is similar to expanding dynamic volume. It can also shrink RAID 5 volume with the above operations. Visit official website of MiniTool Partition Wizard and you will know more about it: http://www.partitionwizard.com.
